03 July 2018 at 13:20LT, in position 4.6 nm SE of Tanjung Piai, Malaysia, In the west bound lane of the main strait, while sailing, ten perpetrators from six sampans boarded the barge that was being towed by the tugboat. The crew was not injured. Scrap metals were stolen from the towed barged. The tugboat master sounded the alarm. Singapore PCG confirmed the incident and initiated the safety navigational broadcast. Singapore (VTMS) raised communication with the tug master. Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) was notified and the Malaysian and Indonesian authorities were informed.
