New vessel to improve Sabah’s maritime security

KOTA KINABALU: A new marine enforcement vessel is expected to strengthen security in the state.

The vessel – KM Kota Belud – together with another ship – KD Arau – were docked in Sabah Ports in conjunction with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) open day.

MMEA Sabah and Labuan director First Admiral Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som said the locally-built ship is equipped with an unmanned aerial vehicle for the purpose of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and an automatic identification system, (AIS) among other facilities.

The vessel measuring 45m in length and 7.7m wide is able to cruise up to 2,000 nautical miles (about 3,704km) per trip.
