Maritime Security Agency to hold oil spill response exercise

KARACHI: The ninth Barracuda (oil spill response) exercise under the aegis of the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency will be held in December, MSA said in a statement.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, will be chief guest of the inaugural ceremony, the MSA said in its press release.

The MSA holds Barracuda exercise annually, which is related to the preparation for response to an oil spill incident or any other emergency situation.

The maritime security agency had last year conducted the BARRACUDA – VIII drill from 04 – 07 December.

The representatives of 10 countries including Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia and other countries and 20 observers will participate in the drills to rehearse procedures and implementation of National Marine Disaster Contingency Plan.

In the previous exercise the stakeholders from national, provincial and civil sectors participated along with respective Oil Spill Equipment and Response
