A major responsibility of the Nigerian Navy is the protection of the Nigerian maritime environment. Defence correspondent, JOY YESUFU takes a look at the activities of the Nigerian Navy in this direction in Nigeria’s delta region. The Nigerian Navy has never rested on its laurels in its efforts to reduce criminal activities in the country’s maritime environment to the barest minimum level. The maritime safety that comes with naval activities impacts directly to increase the country’s maritime trade volume and improve the economy. Though bringing activities of vandals, sea pirates and oil thieves to a total halt can hardly be achieved, the increasing arrests and prosecution of anti-social elements in the country’s maritime environment have made criminalities in the Nigerian waters very unattractive.
