On August 22nd, at 0759 UTC (1059 LT), approximately 54 NM WSW of Hodeida (Yemen), while sailing within Eritrean EEZ, the Panama-flagged bulk carrier SW NORTH WIND I (IMO: 9514004) was attacked by an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV). The Armed Security Team fired multiple shots but was unable to neutralize it. The USV rammed the bulker on its portside beam, and a small explosion occurred. Only slight damage was reported to the hull of the vessel, and the hull was not breached. All crew members were reported safe. At the time of reporting, the vessel was being followed at a distance of 5 NM by two skiffs with armed men onboard. The vessel is requesting assistance from any naval assets in the area. The incident is ongoing, and further information will be provided once available.
